When you think of a college athlete you think of basketball players, football players, and soccer players, but would ever think to hear college gamer as an athlete. Well, you might have to get used to that term because as Esports is becoming much more popular colleges are starting to want to form Esport teams and some already have. In the next couple years, most Universities will have varsity Esport teams, and according to CBS News, fifty U.S. colleges do offer it as a varsity sport backed by partial scholarships and game analysists/coaches. Varsity Esports is becoming more popular with big times schools such as Utah and the University of California Irvine who opened a $250,000 Esports arena about two years ago, Smaller private schools are becoming more attracted to Esports teams so it could be likely that High Point University could be adding one to the 16 teams 1 family phrase in the upcoming years.
